Since its first
flight in 1974, the BAe Hawk, which is used as a training/low cost fighter
aircraft, has continued in service for more than 30 years. The Hawk has an 11m
wingspan,a gross weight of 5.1tons, and is powered by a Adour 151 turbofan
engine. It can be armed with a 30mm machine gun pod and can carry up to 2270kg
of ordnance. In addition to the RAF, the Hawk was exported to the Swiss Air
Force and 16 other nations. The 20Swiss Air Force Hawk Mk.66s have been used as
an advanced training aircraft and were deployed from 1990 to 2002.
