About the Kubelwagen Type 82
Dr. Ferdinand
Porsche designed the Volkswagen for civilian use under the "people's car"
project, but the German army was also interested in the design for military
use. The resulting Kubelwagen was a canvas-top convertible with a
lightweight monocoque body. Equipped with a reliable air-cooled 985cc
4-cylinder engine, the vehicle had excellent cross-country performance. It
was used on all fronts by the German army and the Luftwaffe in roles such as
liaison, reconnaissance,and personnel transportation.
